Dr. Richard PaulEveryone Thinks...
It is our nature to do so. But much of our thinking left to itself is biased, distorted, ill-founded, or prejudiced. Much of our thinking leads to problems in our lives. Much of our thinking leads to cruelty and injustice. Of course, the mind doesn’t just think, it also feels and wants. What is the connection? Our thinking shapes and determines how we feel and what we want. When we think well, we are motivated to do things that make sense and motivated to act in ways that help rather than harm ourselves and others.
~ Richard Paul - Linda Elder "The Human Mind"
Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves.
~ Leo Tolstoy

The EveryoneThinks Project aims to cultivate deep thinking about deep issues and foster the emancipation of human thought.

25 Days to Better Thinking and Better Living

Critical thinking is at once simple and complex. Though there are many layers to critical thinking, and you can always deepen your understanding of it, there are some basic ideas in critical thinki... Read More

Improve our thinking, improve our world.

How many of us think of changing ourselves as a key to global change? How many of us recognize thinking as the key? What if each of us sharing the planet could examine our own thinking and thereby improve our decision making?

We need tools for thinking better. We need to learn what thinking entails, how to find problems in our thinking and fix them.

What we need is critical thinking.
What if we all knew how to consistently and skillfully clarify our purpose or the question at issue, to conscientiously evaluate our assumptions, to comprehensively gather facts and information, to carefully consider the implications of our decisions, to empathetically enter into other points of view? Some of the most important decisions we make are made with few if any of these elements being used to their fullest potential.

Imagine a world in which critical thinking were prevalent at every level of thought, in every person, in every family, in every institution, in every country, in every human society. Such a world has never existed. The possibility of such a world lies in the thinking of every one of us. The time to begin is now.
So, what is critical thinking?

There are many ways to initially define it.
  • Critical thinking is the awakening of the intellect to the study of itself.
  • It is thinking about your thinking while you're thinking to make your thinking better.
The tools of critical thinking can help free the mind from prejudice, selfishness, intolerance, and arrogance, to help solve the tremendous problems now facing us as humans living on the planet.
